Ever dreamed of having a robot that can mow your lawn and learn directly from you? Honda wants you to teach its new robot lawnmower — a next-generation autonomous mower that learns your yard’s layout and mowing patterns to handle the job independently.
The Japanese automaker is launching its new ProZision series of battery-powered riding mowers at the Equip Exposition 2025 in Kentucky. Among them is the ProZision Autonomous, a model designed to operate “without needing a human operator on board.”
At first glance, the seat might seem puzzling for a self-driving mower. But Honda explains that the rider plays a crucial role in the mower’s learning process. Initially, users must teach the mower routes and mowing patterns. These are then locked in using satellite-guided navigation, allowing the mower to later run autonomously.
Once trained, owners can use Honda’s companion app to set routes, adjust cutting patterns, or schedule mowing times, transforming the experience from manual labor to smart yard management.
While the idea sounds appealing to homeowners, Honda’s ProZision Autonomous mower is built primarily for professional landscapers. With a 60-inch cutting width and coverage of up to 15 acres per charge, it’s intended for large-scale operations like golf courses, parks, or estates.
According to Minoru Kato, Honda’s general manager of motorcycle and power products operations, the mower was developed to help landscaping businesses struggling with an aging workforce and staff shortages. The company hopes automation will ease workloads and boost productivity in the green industry.
The new robot lawnmower comes equipped with precision sensors, GPS mapping, and an electric drivetrain for quiet, efficient mowing. It also supports battery-powered sustainability, reducing emissions and operating costs compared to traditional fuel-based mowers.
Although Honda hasn’t revealed the price yet, it’s expected to come at a premium, given its professional-grade performance and advanced automation technology.
By making users an essential part of the learning process, Honda blends human experience with AI precision. This hybrid approach positions the ProZision mower as more than just a machine — it’s a smart partner that adapts to your needs.
As the landscaping industry faces increasing demand for efficiency and sustainability, Honda’s innovative robot lawnmower could mark a major step toward a future where autonomous yard care becomes standard.
