Google’s AI Can Now Make Phone Calls for You
Finding service pricing from local businesses just got easier with Google's latest AI-powered feature. With the ability to make phone calls on your behalf, Google's AI simplifies how users check pricing and availability at places like pet groomers, auto repair shops, and dry cleaners. This update integrates directly with Google Search, offering a “have AI check pricing” prompt right within the results. If you’ve ever dreaded making calls for simple info, this tool is designed exactly for you.
How Google’s AI Calling Feature Works
When users search for select services, such as a nearby pet groomer or auto shop, they’ll now see an option to let AI make the call. Google’s assistant will then ask a few follow-up questions—like the type of pet or car service you need, preferred schedule, and how you want to get updates (via email or SMS). After collecting that data, it places the call using Google's Duplex technology, powered by Gemini. Once done, it delivers the business's response directly to you. This hands-free feature is especially appealing to younger users who prefer texting over talking.
AI Calling Powered by Gemini and Duplex
The underlying engine behind this innovation is Google's Duplex tech, now fused with the Gemini 2.5 model for smarter, more natural interactions. Robby Stein, VP of Product for Google Search, confirmed the AI introduces itself as a digital assistant and clarifies it’s calling on your behalf. Whether it’s checking prices or booking slots, this saves users time and effort. Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers benefit from higher usage limits and the ability to choose Gemini 2.5 for more advanced results.
AI Mode and Deep Search Expansions
Beyond voice calls, Google is also enhancing AI Mode in Search with advanced Deep Search capabilities. This allows users to request detailed, multi-layered reports powered by AI that reasons, researches, and verifies responses before delivering them. Users can expect smarter results for complex queries involving math, coding, or multi-step reasoning. Currently available through Google Labs for Pro and Ultra users, AI Mode marks a big leap in how search works—from simple answers to full-scale analysis.
