How Sensitive Content Warnings in Google Messages Work

When Google Messages detects an image containing nudity, it is blurred before being shown to the user. Recipients can choose to delete the blurred image without opening it or block the sender entirely. If someone tries to send or forward such an image, they will receive a warning outlining the risks and must swipe to confirm before sending. This system not only protects recipients but also encourages senders to think twice before sharing sensitive material.

Availability and Default Settings for Users

The sensitive content warnings in Google Messages were previously tested in a limited beta but are now available to all Android users. For teen accounts signed in with a Google Account, the feature is enabled by default. Adult users can turn it on manually if they choose. This default setting for younger users ensures extra safety for those who are more vulnerable to receiving inappropriate content.

How to Enable Sensitive Content Warnings in Google Messages

Turning on this privacy tool is straightforward. In the Google Messages app, tap your profile photo in the top-right corner, go to Messages settings, and select Protection and safety. From there, choose Manage sensitive content warnings and toggle the Warnings in Google Messages option on. Once enabled, the system will start blurring nude images automatically, giving you more peace of mind while chatting online.
