Playground Games has finally confirmed what fans have been waiting for: Forza Horizon 6 is set in Japan and arrives in 2026. The reveal came during Xbox’s Tokyo Game Show stream, where Microsoft dropped a cinematic teaser trailer showing off Japan’s stunning landscapes and neon-soaked city streets.
The announcement followed a brief early reveal on the official Forza Horizon Instagram account, sparking excitement among longtime fans who have requested Japan as a location since the very first game.
Tokyo Lights And Japan’s Open World
The teaser didn’t showcase gameplay, but it gave players a glimpse of what’s ahead. Forza Horizon 6 will feature Tokyo’s bustling nightlife, complete with glowing skyscrapers, drifting opportunities, and wide highways. Outside the capital, players can expect an expansive open world that explores rural Japan, mountain roads, and scenic coastlines.
“This has been the most requested location since the very first game, and we can’t wait to share more next year,” said Matt Booty, Xbox president of game content and studios.
Launch Platforms And Release Timeline
As confirmed, Forza Horizon 6 is set in Japan and arrives in 2026 on Xbox Series X|S and PC. PlayStation 5 players will need to wait a little longer, as Playground Games and Turn 10 Studios are working on a PS5 version that will release post-launch.
The developers plan to reveal more details in early 2026, including gameplay footage and expanded features. With the move to Japan, expectations are high for new driving mechanics, cultural influences, and an upgraded car roster.
Why Japan Is The Perfect Setting
Japan has always been synonymous with car culture—drifting, JDM classics, and mountain racing all trace roots back to its roads. Setting Forza Horizon 6 in Japan feels like a natural evolution for the franchise, combining fan demand with the vibrant automotive heritage of the country.
With neon-lit Tokyo streets and the winding roads of Mount Fuji, Forza Horizon 6 may deliver the most immersive Horizon experience yet.
