Google has begun rolling out a fresh redesign of its smart home app — and this first look at the Google Home app powered by Gemini shows how AI is taking center stage. The update, spotted in version 3.41.50.3 of the app, introduces a more streamlined interface and Gemini-driven features designed to make managing your smart home even easier.
The overall design hasn’t drastically changed, but Gemini is now front and center. Usability tweaks make the app feel cleaner and more efficient, while new Gemini-powered tools let you control devices and review your home’s history in more natural ways.
One of the biggest additions is the Ask Home search bar, sitting prominently at the top of the app. From here, you can type or speak commands, search through your video feeds, or revisit home activity with detailed AI-powered summaries.
According to Android Authority, the Ask Home feature opens a dedicated conversation screen where Gemini helps interpret your requests. Instead of tapping through menus, you can simply say things like “Dim the living room lights” or “Show me last night’s camera footage.”
This integration reflects Google’s broader plan to bring Gemini into all Home products, including smart speakers and displays, making the experience more conversational and less button-driven.
The redesign doesn’t stop at Gemini. The Favorites tab has been renamed to Home, and the Devices and Settings icons have been removed from the bottom bar, leaving a simplified three-icon navigation. These small changes aim to reduce clutter and make everyday use faster.
For years, users have wanted a smarter, more intuitive Google Home app. By weaving Gemini into the experience, Google is finally delivering on that promise. This first look at the Google Home app powered by Gemini shows that AI will soon be the backbone of how we manage our homes — not just through voice commands, but with predictive assistance and context-aware controls.
