Elon Musk is leading a pressure campaign to make Netflix un-woke, urging his followers to cancel their subscriptions over shows featuring transgender characters. The billionaire claims Netflix is pushing what he calls a “woke agenda,” reviving culture war debates around kids’ programming and inclusivity.
Earlier this week, Musk reshared a post on X (formerly Twitter) criticizing Dead End: Paranormal Park, a 2022 animated series with a transgender protagonist. Although the show was canceled in 2023, Musk reignited controversy, calling it “not okay” and accusing Netflix of promoting harmful values for children.
He doubled down by reposting an image suggesting Netflix has a “transgender woke agenda.” Musk then urged parents to “Cancel Netflix for the health of your kids,” signaling a broader push to get followers on board.
The campaign didn’t stop there. Musk highlighted The Baby-Sitters Club, which featured LGBTQ+ characters before being canceled in 2022. He also chimed in on a 2023 episode of CoComelon Lane, which included a scene of a child wearing a tutu and tiara. Musk dismissed it as “super messed up for a kids show.”
By targeting Netflix, Musk is inserting himself into a wider debate about streaming platforms, kids’ content, and LGBTQ+ representation. While Netflix has long supported diverse storytelling, Musk’s pressure campaign aims to rally right-wing critics who argue the platform is pushing politics into entertainment.
For Netflix, this moment raises questions about balancing inclusivity with backlash. For Musk, it’s another chance to amplify culture war narratives to his massive online following.
