Copilot On Windows Creates Docs & Connects Gmail

Microsoft has rolled out a major update to Copilot on Windows, allowing users to create Office documents directly from the chat interface and link their Gmail and Outlook accounts. This new feature is currently available for Windows Insiders before a broader release to all Windows 11 users.
With Copilot on Windows, you can now generate Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, and PDFs in just a few prompts. Microsoft explains, “You can instantly turn ideas, notes, and data into shareable and editable documents without extra tools or steps.” For longer responses, over 600 characters, Copilot includes an export button to quickly send content to Word, PowerPoint, Excel, or PDF.
Create Documents Instantly in Chat
The standout feature is the ability to generate documents directly in the chat interface. Whether you’re drafting a report, preparing a spreadsheet, or designing a presentation, Copilot simplifies the process. This eliminates the need to switch between apps and speeds up your workflow.
Connect Gmail and Outlook Accounts
Another major update is the option to connect Gmail and Outlook accounts. Once linked, Copilot can pull content from your inbox, calendar, and contacts. You could, for instance, ask it to find all invoices from a specific company or retrieve a contact’s email address.
This integration is opt-in, requiring users to explicitly link their accounts in the connectors section. Copilot supports OneDrive, Outlook, Google Drive, Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Contacts. It mirrors similar integrations OpenAI launched with ChatGPT earlier this year for Google Drive and Dropbox.
Why This Update Matters
By combining document creation with Gmail and Outlook connectivity, Copilot on Windows becomes a powerful productivity tool. Users can quickly generate, share, and manage content without leaving the AI interface. This makes Copilot more than just a chat assistant—it’s now a central hub for work efficiency.
