Belkin Ends Support for Wemo Smart Home Devices
Belkin has confirmed it will discontinue support for nearly all of its Wemo smart home products starting January 31, 2026. This major shift affects users who rely on cloud-based features like remote access and voice assistant integrations. The only exception is for devices configured through Apple HomeKit, which will remain operational after the cutoff date. This change has sparked concern among smart home enthusiasts, particularly those using Android or other platforms without Apple integration.
Why Belkin Is Ending Wemo Support
According to an official announcement shared via email and on the company’s website, Belkin describes this move as a “difficult decision.” However, it's not entirely unexpected. The company previously scaled back its smart home ambitions by stepping away from the Matter standard in 2023. Belkin hasn’t launched any new Wemo devices since then, signaling a retreat from the competitive smart home space dominated by Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and Apple’s HomeKit.
What Happens to Existing Wemo Devices
From February 2026, Wemo users will lose access to essential features that require cloud connectivity. This includes remote control via the Wemo app, voice commands through Alexa or Google Assistant, and customer support services. However, Wemo devices that support HomeKit — including select smart plugs, light switches, and the video doorbell — will continue functioning if properly configured before the deadline. These include models like WLS0503, WSC010, and WSP100.
What Wemo Users Should Do Next
If you're a current Wemo user, now is the time to act. Configure your devices using Apple HomeKit before January 31, 2026, to retain functionality. For those without Apple ecosystems, it may be best to consider alternative smart home brands that commit to long-term support. Belkin has also stated that customers with in-warranty devices may be eligible for partial refunds, although claims will only be processed after support officially ends.
