Atari’s resurrecting the Intellivision, one of its biggest competitors in the ‘80s, bringing a beloved retro console back to life for a new generation. The upcoming Intellivision Sprint fuses nostalgic design with modern gaming features like HDMI output, wireless controllers, and 45 built-in titles.
A Nostalgic Comeback With Modern Power
In a surprising collaboration, Atari and Plaion have teamed up to revive the Intellivision brand with a stylish new console that blends the best of past and present. The Intellivision Sprint maintains the ‘80s charm of the original system, complete with its signature gold-and-black finish and wood-grain accents — but this time, you won’t be untangling any cables.
Instead, the Sprint connects to your TV through a single HDMI cable. The unique controllers, known for their dial and number-pad setup, now operate wirelessly and recharge while docked on the console.
Retro Design, Upgraded Experience
Atari has managed to keep the original Intellivision spirit alive while making gameplay smoother and more accessible. The Intellivision Sprint continues the use of game-specific overlays for the number pad but refreshes them with updated artwork and clearer button layouts for a better player experience.
The console includes 45 built-in games, ranging from classics like Astrosmash and Boulder Dash to a variety of retro sports titles that made the original Intellivision a household name. And although it doesn’t support physical cartridges, players can connect original Intellivision controllers or load extra games via its USB-A ports.
Retro Revival Meets Future-Ready Gaming
The new system taps into the growing trend of retro console revivals, but with Atari leading the project, there’s an added layer of gaming history and nostalgia. While the original Intellivision was Mattel’s answer to the Atari 2600 in 1979, this collaboration marks a rare crossover moment — the former rivals now working together to bring classic gaming to modern audiences.
Preorders Open Now
Fans eager to relive a piece of video game history can preorder the Intellivision Sprint starting today. Whether you grew up battling friends on pixelated sports games or just love collecting vintage-inspired tech, this release celebrates a defining chapter in gaming’s golden age — now rebuilt for 2025.
