Lego’s new Smart Play Pokémon sets let you train and battle your favorite characters, but they miss one key feature that fans really want. If you’re looking for a fun, interactive way to bring Pokémon to life, these sets deliver action and creativity. However, there’s one big thing they can’t do—and it might leave you wanting more. What Is Lego Smart Play Pokémon? Lego Smart Play Pokémon combines classic building blocks with digital technology. You can build your own Pokémon figures, then use a companion app to train them and battle other players. It’s a fresh twist on traditional Lego play, mixing physical toys with virtual fun. How Training and Battling Work With the app, you can teach your Pokémon new moves and level them up. Battles happen in real-time, using your Pokémon’s stats and skills. It’s simple to learn—just scan your built figure, and the app does the rest. Train your Pokémon: Complete challenges to earn experience points. Battle friends: Compete in matches to test your strategy. Build and customize: Use Lego bricks to modify your Pokémon’s look. The One Thing I Wish They Could Do Despite all the fun, these sets don’t let you trade Pokémon with other players. Trading is a core part of the Pokémon experience, letting you swap characters to complete your collection. Without it, the game feels incomplete. You’re stuck with the Pokémon you build, which limits replay value. Why Trading Matters In the original Pokémon games, trading was a social activity that encouraged connection. Lego Smart Play Pokémon focuses on solo training and battles, but misses this community aspect. Adding trading would make the sets more engaging and long-lasting. Tips for Getting the Most Out of Lego Smart Play Pokémon Even without trading, these sets are still a blast. Here’s how to maximize your fun: Host local battles: Invite friends over for head-to-head matches. Mix and match bricks: Create unique Pokémon designs not found in the app. Complete all challenges: Unlock every move and upgrade to become the best trainer. Lego Smart Play Pokémon is a creative way to enjoy both building and digital play. Training and battling are smooth and entertaining, but the lack of trading is a missed opportunity. If Lego adds this feature in the future, these sets could become a must-have for Pokémon fans.
