Google Wallet Drops PayPal Support: What You Need to Know

Google Wallet PayPal Update 2025: What It Means for Users and What to Do Next If you're wondering, “Can I still use PayPal with Google Wallet?” or “Why is PayPal no longer working with Google Wallet?”, you’re not alone. As of June 13, 2025, Google Wallet will no longer support PayPal accounts in the United States. This sudden change has left many users scrambling for alternatives to keep their mobile payments seamless. In this guide, we'll break down why Google is removing PayPal, what you need to do right now, and which payment options you can switch to for uninterrupted service. Why Google Wallet Is Dropping PayPal in the US Google has confirmed that PayPal will be automatically unlinked from Google Wallet for U.S. users starting mid-June. The change was first revealed on a Google Help Center page, citing the decision to end integration with PayPal as part of a broader update to the Wallet app. Users can no longer add new PayPal accounts to Wallet as of April 11, 2025, and all existing links will be removed by June 13. This follows a previous update from PayPal stating that users must now rely on PayPal Debit Mastercards for wallet compatibility, rather than linking accounts directly. While the change may frustrate loyal users, both companies are refocusing efforts to promote more streamlined and rewarding payment methods. What Users Need to Do Before June 13, 2025 If your Google Wallet account is currently linked to PayPal, take action now to avoid service disruption. You'll need to: Remove your PayPal account from Google Wallet manually (if not done automatically). Add an alternative payment method such as a credit card, debit card, or bank account directly to your Wallet. Update any recurring payments linked to PayPal—especially subscriptions—by visiting the relevant merchant websites. Failure to switch payment methods could result in failed transactions or missed subscription renewals. Where You Can Still Use PayPal with Google Despite this shift, PayPal isn’t disappearing completely from the Google ecosystem. You can still use your PayPal account for: Purchases on the Google Play Store Other Google services where PayPal is accepted as a checkout option However, Google Wallet will no longer display PayPal transactions, which means you’ll have to log in to the PayPal app or website to view your payment history. International Users: What Changes for You? It’s worth noting that this change is limited to the United States. Users in Germany and other select regions will continue to enjoy PayPal integration within Google Wallet. In fact, PayPal has recently rolled out tap-to-pay functionality for iPhone users in Germany, and continues to support group money pooling features through its native app. What This Means for Digital Wallets and Mobile Payments This update reflects a broader trend in the digital payments space, where companies like Google and PayPal are refining their mobile wallet strategies. As competition heats up between Google Wallet, Apple Pay, Samsung Wallet, and PayPal, we’re seeing increased focus on security, transaction speed, and monetization. By reducing cross-platform dependencies, these services may also aim to boost transaction volumes on their native debit or credit solutions. Don’t Wait to Update Your Wallet If you rely on PayPal in Google Wallet, make sure to act before June 13, 2025, to prevent transaction issues. With alternatives like credit cards, debit cards, and even PayPal’s own Debit Mastercard, there are still plenty of ways to stay connected and make fast, secure payments.
