Huawei Watch 5 Review: Innovative Fingertip Sensor & Fast Health Tracking

Huawei Watch 5 Review: What Makes Its Fingertip Sensor a Game-Changer? Curious about the Huawei Watch 5 and its new fingertip sensor? You’re not alone. Many smartwatch buyers want to know how this device improves health tracking and what sets it apart from others in 2025. The Huawei Watch 5 introduces a unique multi-sensing technology that measures vital health metrics—like EKG, blood oxygen, and arterial stiffness—not just from your wrist but also through a sensor on the watch’s side that reads your fingertip. This innovation enhances accuracy and speeds up measurements, making it a must-know for fitness enthusiasts and health-conscious users seeking reliable, fast results. Advanced Fingertip Health Tracking: How Does It Work? Unlike most smartwatches that rely solely on sensors pressing against the wrist, Huawei’s Watch 5 uses its “multi-sensing X-TAP technology.” This tech packs an array of sensors—including pressure detection, an EKG electrode, and optical heart rate sensors—along the side of the watch, targeting the fingertip for superior data quality. Since fingertips have dense capillaries and excellent blood flow, health readings like blood oxygen levels (SpO2) become far more precise and rapid. Huawei claims this sensor allows SpO2 spot checks in just 10 seconds, compared to the longer waits common on competing devices. Such quick and accurate tracking is vital for users monitoring cardiovascular health, stress, or sleep disturbances. One-Tap Health Glance: A Snapshot of Your Vital Signs The Watch 5’s “one-tap health glance” packs a comprehensive health overview in 60 seconds. It delivers data on average heart rate, heart rate variability (HRV), blood oxygen, skin temperature, stress levels, EKGs, arterial stiffness, respiration, and sleep quality. While many features carry over from the Watch 4, the addition of HRV monitoring reflects Huawei’s focus on deeper health insights. This feature appeals to users wanting quick access to a broad spectrum of wellness metrics, enhancing the everyday usability of this smartwatch. Design and Usability: Titanium, Colors, and Gesture Controls Huawei also refined the Watch 5’s design with slimmer bezels and a bright 3,000-nit display available in two sizes—42mm and 46mm. The larger titanium model supports cellular connectivity, with battery life reaching up to 4.5 days under typical use. A notable highlight is the new “purple” titanium finish. Although Huawei boasts a proprietary anodization process delivering an “exact purple with an opaline effect,” some users may find the hue leans more toward blue-gray, which might disappoint true purple lovers. Additionally, new gesture controls like double slide and double tap add intuitive ways to interact with the watch, enhancing convenience on the go. Availability and Pricing: Where and When to Get the Huawei Watch 5 Currently, the Huawei Watch 5 isn’t available in the US but is up for preorder in the UK and Europe starting at £399.99 (€499.99), approximately $550. The 42mm model comes in beige, gold, white, and green stainless steel, while the 46mm offers black stainless steel and titanium options in brown, silver, and purple. For users outside the US looking for a feature-rich health smartwatch with innovative sensors and stylish designs, the Huawei Watch 5 presents a compelling option in 2025’s wearable market. With its groundbreaking fingertip sensor and rapid health tracking capabilities, the Huawei Watch 5 stands out among smartwatches focused on wellness. Whether you’re a fitness fanatic or someone eager to monitor health stats with precision, Huawei’s latest wearable technology offers features designed to keep you informed and in control.
