YouTube TV App Update: Everything You Need to Know About New Features in 2025 Wondering what new features are coming to the YouTube app for TVs? Google is rolling out major updates to improve your YouTube TV experience, including a dedicated Shorts row, "Top Channels" shelves, a Podcast tab, and more. If you’re searching for details on the latest YouTube TV redesign, new navigation tools, or better playback options, you’re in the right place. The YouTube app for TVs is evolving rapidly in 2025, aiming to offer smoother browsing, smarter recommendations, and higher-quality viewing—all packed into an even more user-friendly interface. New YouTube TV Features: A Smarter, Smoother Experience Google recently announced several enhancements for the YouTube TV app, set to roll out throughout Q2 2025. Along with a highly anticipated redesign, YouTube is introducing easier navigation, upgraded video quality, and quicker access to comments, channel details, and subscription options. These updates are designed to make discovering and enjoying your favorite content on a smart TV more intuitive than ever. Introducing Shelves: Personalized Content at Your Fingertips One of the standout additions is a new "Shelves" system on the Home tab. These dynamic rows use your watch history and search activity to personalize your YouTube TV interface. Here’s what to expect: Continue Your Search Shelf: Quickly jump back into your top three recent searches without starting from scratch. Listen Again Shelf: Revisit your favorite songs and music videos based on your past searches and listens. Live Performances, Remixes, and Covers Shelf: Discover alternate versions of your favorite tracks beyond the official releases. Primetime Channels Shelf: Easily access content from your most-watched Primetime Channels if you’re a subscriber. From Your Top Channels Shelf: See updates and fresh content from the YouTube channels you watch most. These smart content shelves ensure that your TV viewing is always tailored to what you love most, boosting user engagement and improving your YouTube experience. Dedicated Shorts Row: Cleaner, Faster Browsing Another exciting improvement coming to the YouTube app for TVs is a dedicated row for YouTube Shorts in the subscriptions feed. Until now, Shorts were mixed in with regular videos, creating a cluttered browsing experience. With this new layout, Shorts content will be clearly separated, making it easier and faster to find the type of content you want to watch. Google confirmed that the new Shorts layout could also appear in the "Watch Next" feed, in addition to the Home tab, providing a more organized and visually appealing experience. New Podcast Tab: Streamlined Audio Content Fans of podcasts will love the new Podcast tab, which is being added to the YouTube TV app. As podcasting grows in popularity, YouTube is clearly investing in offering a seamless, TV-optimized experience for podcast listeners. Whether you're looking for tech podcasts, finance shows, or motivational talks, finding and playing your favorite episodes on your smart TV will soon be easier than ever. Enhanced Playback Options: Loop Videos and Better Previews Google is also addressing user feedback by bringing mobile-favorite features to the big screen: Loop Playback for Videos: You’ll soon be able to loop individual videos, not just playlists—a simple yet highly requested feature. Expanded Inline Previews: Video previews, which play when you hover over thumbnails, are expanding to channels, subscription feeds, and topic pages. Immersive Channel Previews: Fullscreen background previews are now fully rolled out, offering a more engaging way to explore channels before subscribing. YouTube TV App 2025 Update Timeline All of these updates are scheduled to roll out before the end of June 2025. Some features, like the Podcast tab and Immersive Channel Previews, are already live for select users. The full rollout will be gradual, so if you don’t see these new options yet, they should appear on your device soon. What This Means for YouTube TV Users The upcoming changes mark a significant improvement in how users interact with the YouTube TV app. By focusing on personalization, better content organization, and smoother navigation, YouTube is positioning itself to deliver a premium, TV-optimized experience that rivals traditional cable services. Whether you’re binge-watching music videos, catching up on your favorite Shorts, or exploring podcasts, these updates ensure your experience is faster, smarter, and more enjoyable.
