Saudi Arabia has called on Muslims to sight the Ramadan crescent on the evening of February 17, corresponding to 29 Shaban.

The country’s Supreme Court urged anyone who sees the moon — with the naked eye or binoculars — to report it to the nearest court.

Meanwhile, astronomers warned that moon sighting may be difficult and ris_ky due to the moon’s closeness to the sun and a possible solar eclipse.

Authorities advised the public to rely on verified announcements from official religious and astronomical centres to avoid confusion over fasting schedules.
