The Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE) has directed all banks and licensed financial institutions to immediately stop using instant messaging apps such as WhatsApp for providing financial services or handling customer data.

The regulator warned that any violation of this directive could result in supervisory action, administrative penalties, or financial sanctions.

The order applies to all institutions operating under the Consumer Protection Regulation and related standards.

The move aims to strengthen data security, protect customer information, and ensure compliance with strict financial communication protocols across the UAE banking sector.
