Ideally located in the upper lands of Western Kenya, Transmara Sugar Company Limited (TSCL) lies almost on the Equator and benefits from high and reliable rainfall throughout the year. The region lies at an altitude ranging between 1,800 to 2,200 meters above sea level and has amongst the most fertile soils in Kenya. The factory mill has a crushing capacity of 180 tonnes of sugar cane per hour with a target of 4000 tonnes per day with the installation of two new cane feeder tables. As a result of the fertile soil and sustained progress made in these areas, sugar production has increased from less than 20,000 tonnes in 2012 to reach 89,000 tonnes in 2016-17. Cane is 100% supplied by the 14,700 outgrowers of the region on an estimated area of 14,000 hectares to the Transmara factory. Over the years, the company provides planters’ relations that include, irrigation, fertilization, harvest and transport facilities from the fields to the factory.
