Kenya Space Agency is mandated to promote, coordinate and regulate space related activities in the country. This will be achieved through promotion of research and innovations in space science, technology and respective applications as well as enhancing the regulatory framework. It will also spur Kenya’s competitiveness and positioning in playing a critical role in the regional and global space agenda. The history of space activities in Kenya dates back to the 1960s with the establishment of a Satellite Launching and Tracking Base at Malindi. This was a collaborative effort between Kenya and Italy. Over twenty (20) sounding rockets and nine (9) satellites were launched from the facility between 1967 and 1988. Kenya joined the space faring countries on 11th May 2018, when it deployed its first satellite (nanosatellite) into orbit from the International Space Station (ISS).
