Job Description

The Associate Manager - Sustainability will be responsible for assisting in the day-to-day implementation of Majid Al Futtaim Group’s sustainability strategy, including the Net Positive Carbon & Water and Circular Economy commitments, as well as MAF-Carrefour EA CSR and RUYB initiatives, internal/colleagues training and external awareness raising sessions, within Majid Al Futtaim Retail. The role holder will also be responsible for working with internal stakeholders (in particular sustainability leads and champions within East Africa) and external advisors to develop and deliver relevant targets, policies and guidelines. 

ROLE PROFILE

  • Assist in the development of the sustainability strategy for Majid Al Futtaim Retail, in East Africa’s sustainability vision and strategy Dare Today, Change Tomorrow.
  • Support the implementation of the sustainability strategic actions / initiatives and associated policies through the network of sustainability leads and champions within Majid Al Futtaim Retail.
  • Own a number of sustainability initiatives and ensure successful implementation.
  • Collate the information required to support the delivery of the East Africa Net Positive approach within Majid Al Futtaim Retail.
  • Ensure that all new fit out developments at Majid Al Futtaim Retail EA achieve a “5-Star” rating under Majid Al Futtaim’s Green Star Certification System.
  • Ensure that East Africa is updating the environmental data of their assets on the online data management system.
  • Dive deep into the environmental data, analyzing consumption trends, while identifying anomalies and gaps. Measure and report against consumption reduction targets.
  • Guide and follow-up with all stores to ensure phase-out of single-use plastics by 2025 (as per the policy).
  • Assist in reporting quarterly progress against targets to the CORP Sustainability Team.
  • Communicate with the sustainability champions in all stores and collecting updates with regards to the socio-economic sustainability initiatives undertaken, and reporting these to the CORP sustainability team.
  • Conduct research on various sustainability-related topics (renewable energy, environmental impact of products, plastic pollution, etc.).
  • Proactively identify and seek professional development opportunities to improve leadership and technical skills pertaining to the direct line of work.

REQUIREMENTS

  • A degree in a sustainability or real estate related discipline e.g., environmental sciences, architecture, engineering.
  • Certified sustainability related professional e.g., LEED AP or WELL AP certified (would be a plus).
  • 5 years+ experience in a sustainability related role in a corporate organization or consultancy.
  • Knowledge of the real estate industry and the built environment.
  • Retail experience is a plus.
