Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Finances Manager to join our team in Nairobi. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in finance, economics, and accounting, with a proven track record of managing financial operations effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all financial operations and direct corporate financial planning and structure.
- Coordinate, analyze and report the financial performance to Management and Board of Directors (financial performance, projections, and other special projects as required).
- Prepare short and long-term financial forecasts of financial performance for use with internal management and external parties.
- Oversee audit and tax functions, coordinate activities with outside audit firms, and review firms’ performance.
- Develop, implement, and maintain accounting and administrative policies and procedures for a wide-ranging set of activities including financial accounting and reporting.
Financial Strategy & Planning
- Develop and implement long-term and short-term financial strategies aligned with the company’s growth objectives.
- Analyze financial trends, market conditions, and competitor performance to guide strategic decision-making.
- Recommend investment opportunities, cost optimization strategies, and revenue enhancement initiatives.
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow).
- Conduct variance analysis between budgets, forecasts, and actual results, providing actionable recommendations.
- Present financial insights to management to aid strategic decisions, including pricing, cost control, and capital expenditure.
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Lead the annual budgeting process, ensuring alignment with departmental and organizational goals.
- Monitor departmental budgets, track expenditures, and provide financial guidance to functional heads.
- Develop rolling forecasts and scenario analyses to anticipate business risks and opportunities.
Cash Flow & Treasury Management
- Monitor daily cash flow and manage working capital efficiently.
- Ensure sufficient liquidity for operational needs while optimizing returns on surplus funds.
- Manage banking relationships, negotiate favorable terms, and oversee company investments.
Internal Controls & Risk Management
- Design, implement, and enforce financial policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Identify financial and operational risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Ensure compliance with local regulations, tax laws, and accounting standards (IFRS & local GAAP).
Audit & Compliance
- Coordinate annual audits and ensure timely submission of all statutory returns (taxes, regulatory filings).
- Liaise with external auditors and regulatory authorities.
- Maintain transparent, organized, and audit-ready financial records.
Cost Management & Profitability Analysis
- Analyze production, operational, and distribution costs to identify savings opportunities.
- Implement cost control measures without compromising quality or operational efficiency.
- Evaluate profitability by product line, customer segment, and sales channel.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team to ensure high performance and professional growth.
- Allocate responsibilities, monitor team KPIs, and conduct performance appraisals.
- Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and collaboration.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with operations, sales, procurement, and production teams to provide financial guidance.
- Support pricing decisions, capital expenditure requests, and business expansion initiatives.
- Act as a strategic business partner to senior management in decision-making processes.
System & Process Improvement
- Identify gaps in financial processes and implement efficient solutions.
- Lead the implementation of financial systems, automation tools, and reporting dashboards.
- Ensure finance operations are scalable to support business growth.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or a related field.
- 5 years proven experience in a financial management role.
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting and accounting principles.
- Excellent analytical and decision-making abilities.
