Job Title: Systems & Infrastructure Officer

Location: Mlolongo, Kenya

Job Summary:

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain the organization's IT infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance and security.
  • Monitor network performance and troubleshoot issues to ensure seamless connectivity and accessibility.
  • Implement and maintain security protocols to protect the organization's data and resources.
  • Coordinate with external vendors and service providers for IT-related services and support.
  • Conduct regular system audits and generate reports to assess efficiency and identify areas for improvement.
  • Provide technical support and training to staff to enhance their IT capabilities and productivity.
  • Stay updated on the latest technology trends and recommend strategic technology upgrades and enhancements.

Systems Administration

  • Install, configure, and maintain operating systems, servers, and applications.
  • Monitor system performance and ensure high availability and reliability.
  • Perform regular system backups and disaster recovery operations.
  • Implement system updates, patches, and security configurations.

Network Administration

  • Manage and support LAN/WAN infrastructure including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points.
  • Monitor network performance, troubleshoot connectivity issues, and optimize network operations.
  • Maintain network security through access control, firewalls, and VPNs.
  • Collaborate with ISPs and service providers to resolve connectivity and bandwidth issues.

IT Infrastructure Support

  • Provide technical support to end-users on hardware, software, and network issues.
  • Maintain IT inventory including hardware, software licenses, and network equipment.
  • Oversee installation and configuration of desktops, laptops, printers, and other peripherals.
  • Support data center operations including power, cooling, and cabling management.

Security and Compliance

  • Implement and maintain IT security policies, firewalls, and antivirus protection.
  • Ensure data protection and compliance with organizational IT policies and regulations.
  • Conduct periodic system and network audits to identify vulnerabilities.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain updated documentation for network configurations, systems, and procedures.
  • Prepare reports on system performance, incidents, and IT infrastructure status.
  • Contribute to IT strategy development and infrastructure improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 3 years proven experience in managing IT systems and infrastructure.
  • Strong understanding of network management and security protocols.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to adapt to new technologies and learn quickly.
  • Hands-on experience with Windows/Linux server environments
  • Strong understanding of networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, VLANs)
  • Experience with virtualization (VMware/Hyper-V) and cloud platforms is an added advantage
  • Familiarity with backup and disaster recovery tools and procedures
  • Relevant certifications (CCNA, MCSA, CompTIA Network+/Security+) are an advantage
