Job Overview
We are seeking a motivated and dynamic Construction Project Management Intern to join our team in Nairobi. This role is ideal for individuals looking to gain hands-on experience in the construction industry, specifically in project management. The intern will assist in various tasks and projects, gaining insights into the intricacies of managing construction projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in planning, organizing, and managing construction projects under the supervision of senior project managers.
- Conduct site visits and inspections to ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
- Assist in preparing project documentation, including reports, plans, and schedules.
- Support in the coordination of project resources, including labor, materials, and equipment.
- Participate in project meetings and contribute to discussions on project progress and challenges.
Project Planning & Coordination:
- Support the Project Manager in planning and scheduling project activities.
- Coordinate with architects, engineers, contractors, and suppliers to ensure timely project execution.
- Assist in monitoring project timelines, deliverables, and resource allocation.
Site Supervision & Quality Control:
- Participate in regular site inspections to ensure work meets project specifications and safety standards.
- Track progress and report any deviations from plans or schedules.
- Assist in resolving on-site issues and liaising with contractors and supervisors.
Budgeting & Documentation:
- Assist in preparation of project budgets, cost estimates, and procurement plans.
- Maintain accurate project records including reports, drawings, and correspondence.
- Prepare weekly and monthly progress reports for management review.
Health, Safety & Compliance:
- Ensure adherence to occupational health and safety regulations on site.
- Support implementation of company and regulatory compliance requirements.
Communication & Coordination:
- Facilitate smooth communication among internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Attend project meetings and prepare minutes and follow-up action points.
Requirements
- Diploma in Civil Engineering, Building Economics, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of construction project management principles.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Project).
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- At least 1 year of practical experience in construction project coordination, site supervision, or a similar role (including attachment/internship experience)
- Good understanding of construction project workflows, scheduling, and cost management.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, Project) and basic knowledge of AutoCAD or similar software.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
