Job Summary
We are seeking a creative and passionate Pastry Chef to join our team in Nairobi, Kenya. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in catering and a diploma in a relevant field. You will be responsible for crafting delicious pastries and desserts that enhance our clients' dining experiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and prepare a variety of pastries, desserts, and other baked goods.
- Design new recipes and ensure quality and consistency in all baked items.
- Manage inventory and order supplies as needed.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Collaborate with other chefs and kitchen staff to deliver outstanding service.
- Production & Preparation
- Prepare a variety of pastries, breads, desserts, and other baked goods according to recipes and specifications.
- Innovate and develop new pastry items to expand the deli’s product range.
- Ensure correct portion sizes and consistent presentation of all items.
- Quality & Hygiene
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and organization in the kitchen and preparation areas.
- Comply with all food safety and hygiene regulations.
- Monitor freshness and quality of ingredients and finished products.
- Inventory Management
- Monitor stock levels of ingredients and request replenishment in a timely manner.
- Assist in minimizing wastage through proper storage and rotation of ingredients.
- Customer Service Support
- Coordinate with the deli counter team to ensure timely restocking of pastries.
- Provide product knowledge to staff and occasionally to customers if needed.
- Team Collaboration
- Work closely with other deli staff, chefs, and supervisors to meet production schedules.
- Participate in team meetings to suggest menu updates and seasonal offerings.
Requirements
- Diploma in Pastry Arts, Culinary Arts, or a related field.
- 2 years proven experience as a pastry chef or similar role in the catering industry.
- Strong knowledge of baking techniques and pastry preparation.
- Creativity and a keen eye for detail.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle pressure.
