Job Description
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide technical support for clinical equipment, including scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, inventory management, and on-call support.
- Serve as the hospital’s expert on medical device management, offering guidance on regulation, risk, procurement, modification, and servicing.
- Lead quality assurance and continuous improvement initiatives related to equipment use, maintenance, and repair.
- Develop and review safety and emergency plans for critical equipment; manage recalls and safety alerts.
- Establish preventive maintenance schedules, procedures, and training programs for technical staff.
- Coordinate special projects such as equipment procurement, installation, upgrades, and disposals.
- Develop and deliver safety and equipment training programs for clinical teams; evaluate devices for purchase.
- Manage departmental budgets, contracts, and procurement, including medical equipment replacement planning.
- Identify and address training needs for technicians and engineers to enhance departmental technical capacity.
Minimum Qualifications, Regulatory & Legal Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or Biomedical Engineering from a recognized institution. A Maters degree will be an added advantage.
- Registered Engineer with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK).
- Minimum of 8 years working experience with 3 years at senior management level in the health care sector.
- Proven experience in project management, plant maintenance, and facility engineering.
- Strong understanding of hospital systems (medical gases, HVAC, water supply, power distribution, and waste management)
