Job Description
  • We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head of Department - ICU/HDU to lead and manage our critical care services. The successful candidate will provide strategic and clinical leadership to ensure delivery of high-quality, safe, and patient-centered care in both the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and High Dependency Unit (HDU)..

Responsibilities

  • Provide overall leadership and management of ICU/HDU services.
  • Develop and implement departmental policies, protocols, and quality standards.
  • Oversee patient care and ensure adherence to evidence-based critical care practices.
  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate ICU/HDU staff, including doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals.
  • Coordinate staff scheduling, workload management, and training needs.
  • Ensure efficient use of resources, equipment, and consumables in critical care units.
  • Monitor patient safety indicators, infection control, and clinical outcomes, and drive quality improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with hospital leadership and multidisciplinary teams to support seamless care delivery.
  • Lead morbidity and mortality reviews, audits, and departmental meetings.
  • Support continuous professional development and promote a culture of excellence and teamwork.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors of Science in Nursing
  • Postgraduate training in Anaesthesia, Critical Care Medicine, or specialization in ICU care.
  • Valid registration and practicing license with the Nursing Council Of Kenya (KMPDC).
  • Minimum of 5-7 years' clinical experience in ICU/HDU, with at least 1-2 years in a leadership or supervisory role. Mandatory valid ACLS & BLS

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong leadership, management, and mentoring skills.
  • Excellent clinical decision-making and critical care expertise.
  • Knowledge of ICU/HDU protocols, infection prevention, and advanced life support.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for team coordination.
