Job Description
The goal is to enhance and oversee the Nursing and Midwifery Sciences programs at our university. Our dedicated lecturers deliver top-notch teaching aligned with the university’s mission. They engage in innovative practices, research, and community partnerships. The Senior Lecturer – Obstetric/Midwifery Nursing will work closely with the Head of Department to meet performance targets and contribute to the university’s vision, making a significant impact in the field and inspiring future nursing and midwifery professionals.
Key Responsibilities
Teach and train students in the field of Nursing and Midwifery Sciences.
Develop and review curricula.
Write grants and engage in research and innovation activities.
Participate in fundraising activities for the department.
Supervise and mentor students.
Mentor junior staff members.
Publish research and disseminate knowledge through various channels.
Participate in professional development activities.
Ensure compliance with quality assurance and accreditation requirements set by relevant regulatory bodies.
Support the Head of Department and other program leaders in managing the ongoing strategic development of programs and administrative tasks within the department.
Assess students’ overall performance through setting and marking assignments, supervising practical sessions, conducting fieldwork, and administering examinations, while providing appropriate feedback.
Engage in any additional duties assigned by the Head of Department or delegated by the Vice Chancellor as needed.
Qualifications
Must hold a PhD in Nursing (Midwifery and Obstetric Nursing) or an equivalent qualification from a recognized university.
Evidence of peer-reviewed publications, achieving a minimum of 28 points since being appointed as a lecturer or senior lecturer.
Registration with the relevant professional bodies is required.
Experience Requirements
A minimum of three (3) years of full-time teaching experience at the university level as a lecturer, or at least six (6) years of relevant industry experience.
Experience supervising at least three (3) postgraduate students to completion as a lecturer.
Familiarity with quality assurance and accreditation requirements set by relevant regulatory organizations, as well as contributions to the accreditation of programs and quality control processes.
Experience in grant writing, with a demonstrated ability to lead research projects, secure funding opportunities, and generate income is an added advantage.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
Evidence of participation in research activities is required.
Demonstrated capability in fundraising is a plus.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
A strong commitment to integrity is expected.
Proven ability to develop ideas for income generation and subject promotion.
Marketing skills are also desirable.
