About the role
Reporting to the Regional Director, External Relations, Africa, the Regional Communications Manager, Africa is a senior member of the global communications team and leads communications activities and public outreach for Nutrition International within the African continent.
The Regional Communications Manager, Africa plays a key role in developing communications and thought leadership strategies to support continental- and country-level priorities and acts as the focal point for all Africa-based communications activities.
Responsibilities:
Create and execute strong country and regional communications and public outreach strategies in Africa that are aligned with Nutrition International’s broader global opportunities, goals and objectives.
Lead communications efforts in Africa to position Nutrition International as a key thought leader in the nutrition and health sectors, and increase the organization’s visibility at regional and national levels.
Drive media and thought-leadership strategies for communications in Africa, including the drafting/assigning of op-eds, blogs and think pieces to support goals.
Manage process for development of communications products for country and regional offices by developing project planning documents, managing timelines and acting as main point of contact with global team for projects requiring writing, editing, web and design support.
Lead and support planning and execution of key in-person, hybrid and virtual events that take place within the continent, working alongside partners, donors and governments to ensure positioning and messaging is consistent with organizational goals
Build budget plans for communications requirements to meet identified needs.
Develop key messaging about Nutrition International’s work and positions on key topics that are contextualized to continental and country needs.
Develop customized training sessions, supported by the greater global communications team, to increase skills and capacity in communications-related areas as required.
Develop new, narrative-based content through drafting of first-person accounts, interviews, Q&As and other content pieces.
Act as internal communications lead for Africa, working alongside the Manager, Internal Communications for content intake and distribution to ensure clear and accurate flow of information in both directions
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree or college certification in Communications, Public Relations, Public Affairs, Marketing, or Journalism (or equivalent)
Minimum of 7 years experience, with at least two years at the management level.
Previous NGO experience and a demonstrated commitment to international development preferred.
Solid understanding of the international development environment and the Sustainable Development Goals agenda.
Experience working in an international organization or complex organizational structure
Proven track record of published blogs, content, articles and op-ed
Up-to-date knowledge on new and emerging communications technologies and practices.
Ability to work in a multi-cultural, team environment., across different time-zones
English – Full verbal and written proficiency is essential
French – working ability in French is highly desired
