SKILLS REQUIRED
Provide antenatal care, including history- taking, vital monitoring, fetal assessment (palpation, FHR), and administering supplements/immunizations.
Assess onset and progress of labor, conduct safe vaginal examinations, and monitor fetal well-being during labor.
Assist with normal vaginal deliveries, provide perineal support, and perform immediate newborn care (drying, APGAR, cord clamping). Administer oxytocin for active management of the third stage of labor.
Monitor maternal postnatal vitals, uterine involution, vaginal bleeding, and care for episiotomies/tears.
Support breastfeeding initiation and educate mothers on self-care, newborn care, and family planning.
Perform neonatal resuscitation (bag and mask ventilation) and manage IV access/fluids in maternal shock.
Recognize, escalate, and assist in preparing for obstetric emergencies like eclampsia and emergency C-sections.
QUALIFICATIONS
Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Nursing or Midwifery.
Valid nursing license/registration from a recognised institution.
Proven hands-on maternity care experience (antenatal, intrapartum, postnatal).
Strong interpersonal, communication, and patient education skills.
Ability to work under pressure and respond effectively in emergencies.
