Job Description
Job Purpose;
- The Environmental Health and Safety Officer will ensure inspection and implementation and evaluation of the work environment, equipment and processes in working areas to ensure compliance with government safety regulations and industry standards. The goal for the role is to protect the employees, customers and the environment from any life hazard.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Environmental Health & Safety
- Ensure safety compliance to safety standards, both at the organization and factory;
- Identify potentially hazardous biological, chemical and radiological materials and collect samples of them for analysis.
- Waste management and ensuring compliance to environmental regulation;
- Offer technical support to safety requirements and advisory to the management on safety issues
- Investigate accidents to identify their causes and find ways to prevent them in the future;
- Carry out daily, weekly, monthly and annual inspections to all company assets and premises on as is where applicable to ensure safety
- Carrying out surveillance and certifications audits towards ISO standards that the company is subscribed to.
- Risk assessments, safety analyses and mitigations.
- Coordinating of various contracts associated with the admin & Safety department as far as services provisions and supply is concerned.
- Coordinate the purchase, proper use, maintenance, and inspection of necessary safety and personal protective equipment;
- Prepare applicable EHS reports as necessary
- Provide assistance and advice on EHS issues to make recommendations to facility management.
- Offer technical support to teams working at various stations to ensure safety is enhanced.
- Coordinate various safety trainings for the teams.
- Oversight responsibility towards resources use and optimizations to ensure sustainability and cost-effectiveness.
- Linkage with statutory bodies and the business in terms compliance and advisory.
- Environmental corprate social responsibility for environmental areas affected by our nature of business
- Any other roles allocated by line manager and or organisation
Facility Specific Responsibilities
- Write, implement, and manage EHS Programs Policies and Procedures. · Perform facility EHS inspections;
- To oversee Hazardous Waste Storage area and ensure regulatory agency compliance i.e. labelling, containment, proper disposal, documentation, etc.;
- Have knowledge and enforce compliance of regulatory requirements (e.g.. OSHA), including company EHS policies and procedures;
- Ensure emergency response, incident reporting and provide first aid treatment;
- Oversee Behavior Based / Observation Safety Programs;
- Help develop Job Hazard Analysis (JHA)
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related field;
- 6–8 years of experience in EHS roles is a must;
- Relevant EHS&S Certifications;
- Experience working in manufacturing and or industrial sectors;
- Familiarity with EHS&S software systems;
- Strong understanding of EHS management systems (such as ISO 14001, ISO 45001, OHSAS 18001);
- Experience in designing and implementing policies and procedures in line with local and international standards;
- Skilled in developing and maintaining environmental and safety compliance programs;
Education: Degree, Diploma
