Job Description

BKCL is looking for a dynamic and experienced finance professional to lead its Financial Reporting, Planning and Analysis function. The role will be responsible for establishing and overseeing robust financial systems, ensuring accurate and timely reporting, and aligning financial strategies with the organisation’s overall goals. This position plays a critical role in managing budgeting, forecasting, internal controls, treasury, capital structure, and grant management. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise in IFRS-compliant financial operations, a deep understanding of risk management and compliance, and proven leadership in building and developing high-performing teams. The role also demands a strong commitment to safeguarding practices and regulatory integrity, as part of a broader effort to ensure BRAC Kenya Company Limited’s (BKCL) long-term financial sustainability and impact. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

Financial Reporting, Planning and Analysis:

 

Develop and execute an efficient Financial Reporting framework to ensure timely and accurate financial statements and reports to all the relevant stakeholders in compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).

 

Ensure all financial activities are properly approved, recorded in a timely manner, and documented in the financial systems.

 

Develop and execute comprehensive financial plans aligned with the organisation's strategic goals.

 

Conduct financial analysis, forecasting, scenario analysis, cost-benefit analysis, trend analysis, and modelling to support decision-making processes. 

 

Provide timely and accurate financial reports to the executive team and board of directors.

 

Financial Systems and Controls:

 

Implement and maintain robust financial systems, policies, and controls to ensure the integrity of financial data.

 

Develop and enforce internal financial and accounting policies and procedures of BKCL to ensure compliance.

 

Stay abreast of industry best practices and technological advancements to enhance financial processes.

 

Support end-to-end process for the annual financial audit.

 

Discuss audit issues with the auditors and follow up with the management team on the implementation by working closely with internal and external auditors and regulatory bodies.

 

Review and implement the finance and accounting module of BKCL, and strategise, organise, direct, and oversee financial operations to ensure efficiency. 

 

Treasury Management:

 

Oversee liquidity management, optimising the use of funds to meet operational needs and regulatory requirements.

 

Identify funding opportunities and manage relationships with financial institutions and stakeholders to secure funding at competitive rates. 

 

Develop and maintain financial accounting systems for cash and petty cash management for BKCL in order to minimise financial risk; analyse changes in the financial environment and advise management accordingly.

 

Capital Structure and Funding:

 

Assess the capital structure of the organisation and recommend strategies to optimize the balance between debt and equity.

 

Explore and secure funding sources to support business expansion and capital requirements.

 

Liaise with the Group treasury team regularly on funding needs. 

 

Budgeting and Cost Control:

 

Lead the budgeting process, working closely with department heads to set financial targets and allocate resources efficiently following the annual strategic planning.

 

Implement cost control measures to optimize operational efficiency and improve overall financial performance.

 

Establish guidelines for budget and forecast preparation and prepare the annual budget in consultation with the CEO as well as plan for the implementation of the budgets for BKCL.

 

Grant Management

 

Manage grants received in the entity. Ensure full cost recovery budgets for development activities.

 

Ensure timely and accurate reporting to the grant stakeholders.

 

Review financial reports of donor funds, attend donor/lender meetings, and take necessary steps to implement financial-related recommendations.

 

Risk Management:

 

Implement and monitor effective financial risk management strategies to safeguard the financial assets of the organisation.

 

Assess and mitigate financial, operational, and regulatory risks to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations, lender covenants, etc.

 

Monitor all legislation relevant to the institution and all regulations on professional certification to ensure that the institution is compliant.

 

Team leadership and Development:

 

Lead, coach, and guide the staff in technical expertise, management, and soft skills, as needed, to enhance capabilities and meet performance expectations.

 

Safeguarding Responsibilities

 

Establish a safeguarding culture across the organization by implementing the safeguarding policy as well as act as a key source of support, guidance and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment.

 

Practice, promote and endorse the issues of safeguarding policy among team members and ensure the implementation of safeguarding standards in every course of action. 

 

Enforce the adherence to safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place and ensure team members are appropriately trained, supported, and have access to resources regarding issues that are identified in accordance with the safeguarding policy and procedures.

 

Educational & Experience Requirements:

 

A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance or a related field is required. A Master’s degree such as an MBA will be an added advantage.

 

10 years of relevant work experience, 5 of which should have been a senior management position in a similar organisation  

 

Experience in managing complex accounting and finance systems, including reporting, budgeting, audit, and compliance, within an organisation operating across multiple countries.

 

Experience in the financial services sector.
