Job Description

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

 

This position has the overall responsibilities of:

 

Drive superior academic outcomes through a relevant, rigorous, and holistic curriculum. Meet annual national and international grade-level performance targets.

 

Build and lead a competent and committed staff team aligned with the school’s vision and values. Achieve staff engagement and retention targets.

 

Promote student growth, discipline, and wellbeing to support holistic education. Ensure 100% of students participate in at least one co-curricular activity per term and keep disciplinary cases remain within set limits.

 

Oversee efficient school operations with full regulatory compliance and prudent resource use. Operate within budget and achieve 100% compliance in financial and regulatory audits.

 

Cultivate strong stakeholder relationships with parents, staff, the board, and the wider school community. Meet parent satisfaction and student enrolment growth targets.

 

SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The Principal is responsible and accountable for the following key job elements:

 

Provide strategic and operational leadership across two campuses, with overarching responsibility for academic and non-academic staff, curriculum development, and daily school operations.

 

Set and drive priorities across academic, spiritual, co-curricular, and pastoral domains to ensure holistic student development and overall school excellence.

 

Supervise Deputy Principals and Heads of Department in curriculum planning, assessment design, resource selection, and classroom delivery to ensure high teaching and learning standards.

 

Recruit, mentor, evaluate, and retain high-performing teaching and non-teaching staff; foster a collaborative, inclusive, and values-driven culture through professional development and team leadership.

 

Oversee academic operations including class scheduling, staff deployment, substitute provision, and resource management, ensuring efficient use of time and facilities.

 

Develop and manage annual budgets and financial plans, aligning resource allocation with strategic priorities and ensuring sound fiscal management.

 

Develop and implement long-term academic and operational plans aligned with the school’s mission and vision, subject to Board approval.

 

Oversee the design, implementation, and continuous enhancement of the curriculum, ensuring alignment with national and international standards, and relevance to student needs.

 

Lead school self-evaluation, performance management, and quality assurance systems, using data-driven insights to inform improvement and accountability.

 

Promote student discipline, wellbeing, and personal development through effective pastoral care, personal, social, and health education and behavior support systems.

 

Lead the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), ensuring alignment of campus goals with institutional strategy and fostering a high-performance culture through regular planning and review.

 

Evaluate and guide the implementation of teaching methods and ensure fidelity to the school’s curriculum, coaching teachers and holding them accountable to academic standards.

 

Manage the school calendar, major events, and co-curricular programs to reinforce the academic culture and community engagement.

 

Represent the school in engagements with the Government of Kenya, regulatory bodies, embassies, NGOs, and other strategic partners.

 

Maintain effective communication with stakeholders parents, guardians, community, and professional bodies ensuring transparency and responsiveness.

 

Drive enrolment growth through brand positioning, reputation management, community outreach, and marketing initiatives.

 

Oversee the effective use of physical infrastructure, digital platforms, and learning technologies to support teaching, learning, and administration.

 

Ensure compliance with all regulatory, accreditation, and child safeguarding standards, and keep the Board informed on school performance, strategic initiatives, and risks.

 

REPORTING & CORRESPONSAL RELATIONSHIP

 

This position reports directly and is responsible to the Director (CEO) and works closely with teaching and non-teaching staff, regulatory authorities, students and parents, and the wider school community.

 

The holder is expected to foster strong relationships with the school community and external education partners.

 

EDUCATIONAL AND COLLATERAL REQUIREMENTS

 

Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field; master’s in educational leadership or MBA or equivalent postgraduate qualification is an added advantage.

 

At least eight (8) years’ progressive experience, three (3) of which should be in a senior leadership role in reputable private school. Must have deep knowledge of curriculum and pedagogy (Competency Based Curriculum, 8-4-4, or IGCSE).

 

Visionary, strategic thinker with the ability to analyze trends, identify opportunities and risks, and translate strategy into actionable plans.

 

Effective leadership and people management skills, with a track record of building high-performing teams, promoting accountability, and fostering a performance-driven culture.

 

Excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills for engaging internal and external stakeholders.

 

Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a data-driven approach to decision-making and a sound understanding of financial and operational metrics.

 

Entrepreneurial and commercially focused mindset, capable of spotting and capitalizing on new opportunities.

 

Resilient and composed under pressure, with professionalism, integrity, and sound judgment.

 

Proficient in Microsoft Office, digital learning, and school administration platforms.
