Key Responsibilities:
Microbiology Analysis of food, feeds and water according to clients’ instructions and recommended methods to identify and quantify Microbiological contaminants to ensure conformity with local or international standards.
Prepare and store of the culture media according to instructions and stated methods
Ensure all samples received in the micro-lab are clearly labelled and all instructions clear before commencement of analysis.
Undertake sampling testing where necessary.
Maintain and organize Microbiology laboratory working area and equipment to ensure high standards of cleanliness and good laboratory practice
Coordinate procurement of microbial culture media, reagents, and chemicals and maintain media stock re-order levels.
Ensure proper disposal of microbiology waste in accordance with set guidelines
Maintaining records of analysis and logbooks of equipment
Filling and submitting all relevant worksheets for all jobs completed.
Ensure samples requiring subcontractor services are well prepared and packed according to the standard operating procedures.
Preparing all sampling tools as per the standards operating procedures.
Ensure all environmental control charts are updated daily.
Maintain laboratory proficiency testing schedule and participating in PT exercise.
Supervise and monitor the cleaning staff provided by the company.
Preparation of standard operating procedures
Establish and validate all microbiological methods and equipment
Report test results and prepare any other relevant laboratory documentation
Training and supervising new staff/interns.
Ensuring all safety requirements/standard safety procedures are available and properly documented.
Participate in internal and external ISO/IEC 17025:2017, QHSE audits
Assist in periodical review and amendment of laboratory SOPS
Perform any other duties that he has been deemed competent as may be directed by the laboratory manager from time to time.
Review all standards and updating and replacing all obsolete standards with the current applicable standard.
Involved in establishing client requirements and assist in expanding laboratory scope. Ensure sample retention and sample disposal logbooks are updated for all samples always submitted to the lab.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
Bachelor’s degree in microbiology or related field and six or more years of relevant experience; or master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and four years of relevant experience
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
Knowledge and competence in Risk Management according to ISO/IEC 17025 requirements
Experience and technical knowledge in ISO/IEC 17025:2017 Implementation.
Competence in Microbiology Method Validation and Uncertainty of Measurement
Trained ISO/IEC 17025:2017 trained internal auditor
Technical and field experience in research, marketing, and laboratory analysis.
