KITUO was established on 9th July 1973, back then Kenya had adopted a fairly liberal democratic Constitution at independence. The colonial laws were not repealed or amended to suit the independence Constitution. In fact, the government progressively amended the 1969 Constitution to suit the colonial laws. The ‘ordinances’ were simply renamed Acts of Parliament thus, an anomaly emerged because the independence Parliament had not deliberated on the laws through the normal legislative process. Most of these laws were inherently unjust because they discriminated on the basis of race, class, and gender. COORDINATOR RESEARCH, COMMUNICATIONS AND KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT (Ref: KCS/RCKM-NRB/APP)
The coordinator will be responsible to the Executive Director for strategic planning, budgeting, co-ordinating, developing and implementing programmes for improving on Research, Communications, Information communication technology and Knowledge management in the organization. Also responsible for overseeing internal and external communications and knowledge management strategies to strengthen communication and knowledge-sharing between KITUO, its membership and other stakeholders.
- Minimum Qualifications and Training: Must be in possession a Bachelor’s Degree in Information and Communications Technology, Information Management, Knowledge Management, Communications, Data Science or in a related field. Master’s Degree in any of the fields is an added advantage.
- Relevant Experience: At least three (3) years’ experience in Knowledge management, documentation, research, communication, Information and Communications Technology or related fields and producing communications through a variety of print and online media.
- Skills: Advanced knowledge of office software packages (MS office), database management, web-based management systems, and IT tools for knowledge management. Demonstrated expertise in synthesizing complex information into digestible, actionable formats for a variety of audiences.
- Experience in managing websites and social media sites. WordPress experience preferred. Experience with webinars and online learning platforms. Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, and Premiere). Graphic design experience is a plus.
Key duties and responsibilities include:
- Manage the research component of the organization through which evidence is gathered to inform KITUO’s work and influence programming. Where possible publish and disseminate the research findings and recommendations for advocacy and to inform the access to justice sector.
- Develop and update a communications and knowledge management strategy based on KITUO’s strategic plan. The strategy should include an implementation plan with measurable outcomes.
- Create an enabling and friendly ICT infrastructure environment in KITUO with the necessary complimentary assets through purchase of necessary Hardware (Computers, printers, UPS, Camera, Scanner, Laptops, External hard drives), renew license for all Licensed Softwares, maintenance of an asset register for all equipment, maintenance of all KITUO’s ICT equipment (Service contracts, repairs, servicing and consumables), taking backups and appropriate storage of the same.
- Manage and maintain an interactive internal and external communication system, by continuously managing the Internet Links, management of the Domain accounts and electronic mail, Telecommunication systems, Local Area networks and Domain servers in strict compliance with the KITUO ICT policy and Procedure manual.
- Identify print, electronic, and in-person vehicles to communicate with key audiences and increase KITUO brand awareness and partnership opportunities.
- Actively seek out new and creative ways to effectively reach KITUO’s network around the world via online platforms.
- Apply security and protection standards for documents whose disclosure would harm organisational interests, backing up data and updating in line with the data protection policy
- Manage regular updates and maintenance of KITUO’s website with new and engaging content, including news/announcements, new resources, events, job postings, project updates, new members and more.
- Manage KITUO’s social media presence on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and YouTube ensuring active engagement on all accounts.
- Monitor website and social media statistics, developing and analyzing quarterly reports, and providing recommendations to increase online traffic and engagement. Develop, update and disseminate KITUO materials.
- Write and oversee the design of the KITUO Annual Report and publish the monthly e-newsletter, sharing out the latest from KITUO and stakeholders.
- Create and update KITUO promotional materials, including one pagers, brochures, presentations, case stories, etc.
- Work with members and partners to finalize new tools, manuals, technical briefs, etc., including copyediting, layout, design, printing, and dissemination.
- Ensure that all print and online communications are consistent with KITUO messaging and brand marketing.
- Provide communications support on grants, projects, and other partnerships and provide additional communications support for other projects as needed.
- Develop and embed a Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, Reporting and Learning (MEARL) framework in KITUO to support programme quality, advocacy, communications, and fundraising.
- Contribute to organization development, proposal writing and any other fundraising efforts.
