Job Description

About the Role

  • MCEDO School, in partnership with Kisomo Foundation, is seeking a passionate and adaptable Literacy Teacher to inspire and support a diverse group of students in developing their reading and writing skills. We are looking for a dynamic educator who can engage children, assess their individual learning needs, and foster a love for literacy in an ever-changing classroom environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging and interactive literacy lessons tailored to different student levels.
  • Adapt lesson plans based on real-time student needs rather than rigid structures.
  • Maintain a positive and energetic classroom atmosphere, inspiring children to work hard and improve.
  • Assess and track student progress through ongoing observation and data collection.
  • Share student progress data weekly with English teachers to ensure coordinated support.
  • Be flexible in handling schedule changes and student absences at short notice.
  • Provide detailed progress reports to Kisomo Foundation for UK donor updates.

  • Adaptable & responsive – can modify lesson pacing and content based on student engagement.
  • Analytical & observant – capable of quickly assessing student literacy levels.
  • Collaborative – works closely with other teachers and shares insights on student progress.
  • Organized & data-driven – keeps accurate records of student performance and challenges.

Qualifications & Experience

  • A Diploma in Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) with at least 2 years of experience OR
  • A bachelor’s degree in education (English/Literature) with prior experience in a literacy program.
