Key Responsibilities
- The Head of Marketing and Fundraising will be responsible for leading and managing the development and implementation of the Flying Doctor Society of Africa’s marketing and communications strategy in line with the Society’s strategic and business plans and in consultation with the Chief Executive Officer.
- Creating brand awareness through media and advertising campaigns, event marketing, digital marketing, and other means as required.
- Manage and develop consistent branding, fundraising and communication materials across the organisation.
- Assisting with the implementation of appropriate CRM and finance systems, including ensuring integration with existing fundraising and marketing systems.
- Overseeing the production and distribution of marketing and communication collateral.
- Continuously improving the effectiveness of existing marketing and communication activities.
The Head of Marketing and Fundraising will be responsible for leading and managing the development and implementation of the Society’s fundraising strategy in line with the strategic and business plans and in consultation with the Chief Executive Officer, including through:
- Appeals,
- Bequests and major giving initiatives,
- Corporate partnerships and workplace giving,
- Individual and regular giving,
- Trusts, foundations, and philanthropic giving,
- Community fundraising,
- Donor engagement, acquisition and retention.
Inspire a creative approach to fundraising and fundraiser/donor engagement, finding creative solutions to engage new fundraisers and reactivating lapsed ones by
- Conducting thorough research to identify new avenues of potential funding
- Telephoning prospective donors to build relationships
- Communicating with new and existing donors
- Provide guidance and leadership on events, community, and individual giving fundraising.
- Increase income generation by identifying and developing new revenue streams whilst maximising existing opportunities, including trusts and foundations, statutory, community, events, and direct campaigns.
- Keeping full financial records and coordinating the allocation of donations with the finance team.
- Set goals for the Marketing team as directed in accordance with the Strategic Plan. Monitor performance against plan. Adjust and replan as appropriate.
- Collaborate with the Council Members and Chief Executive Officer to promote cohesion, support and instil a culture of continuous improvement, prepare and manage budgets, develop and implement operational policies and procedures, and establish and maintain quality assurance mechanisms.
- Develop, mentor, supervise, inspire and support a high-performing team, including staff and volunteers, through induction, goal setting, ongoing feedback and coaching, identification of training and development needs, and conducting of annual performance reviews.
- Keep abreast of the current evidence-base and market and sector developments in marketing and fundraising services nationwide and internationally.
- Communicate the organization’s key strategic priorities and deliverables and represent the organization at a senior level with external stakeholders and the public.

Qualifications, Knowledge, and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field; MBA or other relevant advanced degree preferred.
- Professional qualification in marketing, such as a Chartered Marketer, is desired.
- Creative, strategic thinker with attention to both the big picture and minute details.
- Strong data analysis skills, with the ability to analyze large amounts of data on customer behaviour and experiences.
- Strong sense of urgency and follow-through.
- Excellent project management skills, with a proven ability to manage budgets.
- Self-starter, proactive, and confident in building a network, collaborating, and delivering brand vision and plans.
- Strong relationship-building skills, with excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to influence stakeholders and drive commercial outcomes.
