Job Description
The Health and Safety Assistant will support the Health and Safety Manager in implementing, monitoring, and maintaining health and safety standards on construction sites. This role involves conducting site inspections, ensuring compliance with regulations, promoting a culture of safety, and assisting in the development of safety programs and policies. The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for detail, excellent communication skills, and a proactive approach to ensuring workplace safety.
Safety Inspections and Audits:
- Conduct regular site inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Assist in conducting safety audits and risk assessments.
- Document findings and report any safety concerns or violations to the Health and Safety Manager.
Policy and Procedure Implementation:
- Assist in the development and implementation of health and safety policies, procedures, and programs.
- Ensure that all safety procedures are followed, and that safety equipment is used correctly.
- Help disseminate safety policies and procedures to all employees and contractors.
Training and Education:
- Assist in organizing and conducting health and safety training sessions for employees and contractors.
- Provide guidance on proper safety practices and procedures.
- Keep records of training activities and certifications.
Incident Reporting and Investigation:
- Assist in the reporting and investigation of accidents, incidents, and near misses.
- Gather information, document findings, and help identify root causes.
- Support the implementation of corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Safety Equipment and Supplies:
- Ensure that all safety equipment and supplies are available, properly maintained, and used correctly.
- Conduct regular checks and maintenance of safety equipment.
- Order and distribute personal protective equipment (PPE) as needed.
Regulatory Compliance:
- Stay informed about the latest health and safety regulations and industry standards.
- Assist in ensuring that the company complies with all relevant health and safety laws and regulations.
- Prepare and maintain necessary documentation for compliance purposes.
Communication and Reporting:
- Maintain open lines of communication with employees, supervisors, and management regarding safety issues.
- Prepare and present safety reports to the Health and Safety Manager and other stakeholders.
- Participate in safety meetings and contribute to discussions on improving site safety.
Qualifications
Education:
- High school diploma or degree in Occupational Health and Safety Management.
- Additional certification or training in occupational health and safety (e.g., OSHA 30-hour, NEBOSH Certificate) is preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a health and safety role, preferably in the construction or engineering industry.
