Job Description
  • Del Monte Kenya Limited is a Kenyan food processing company that operates in the cultivation, production, and canning of pineapple products.
  • Del Monte is looking for a results-driven, visionary, strategic thinking, and highly qualified leader with excellent credentials, proven experience, demonstrated capacity, and know-how to fill the position of Tax and Treasury Manager.
  • Reporting directly to the Finance Director, the successful candidate will be charged with providing tax reporting, tax compliance and planning, tax advisory, and treasury operations services to Del Monte, ensuring that Del Monte tax and treasury policies, processes, and procedures are compliant with the legal and tax codes and the Del Monte Global policies. The employment term is a permanent contract.

Key Responsibilities

  • Tax compliance and planning: Drive the tax compliance and planning agenda for all tax heads (income tax, withholding taxes, value added tax, excise duty, payroll, and customs) affecting the business and review tax returns for each tax obligation. Provide advice on company-specific transactions including reviewing customers’ and suppliers’ contracts, highlighting tax exposure areas, and ensuring that businesses take advantage of existing double tax treaties when contracting. Supervise duty remission program to ensure the business obtains optimal tax benefits from the scheme.
  • Tax reporting: Prepare Del Monte’s current tax and deferred tax calculations and analyse the effective tax rate. Liaise with external tax auditors in preparation of end-of-year statutory financial statements.
  • Tax policy: Provide leadership in tax risk mitigation plans and proactively advise the business on new legislation that may lead to tax exposure in the markets of operation. Ensure all changes in tax laws affecting the business are implemented promptly.
  • Transfer pricing: Monitoring key-related party transactions that may lead to transfer pricing risks. Additionally, work closely with tax consultants to develop robust transfer pricing policies, perform periodic reviews, and align the same with local income tax laws and Organization for Economic and Cooperation Development (OECD) guidelines.
  • Tax audits: Provide support for external audits, internal compliance checks, and participate in compliance audits and health checks. Work in collaboration with tax consultants to handle audit queries raised by the revenue authority and implement agreed-upon decisions.
  • Tax assessments: Resolve any tax assessments with the tax authority and develop mitigation measures to avoid future tax exposures.
  • Tax and treasury liaison: Act as the link between business and key stakeholders like external tax consultants, external auditors, tax authorities, lobby groups, and banks on business matters.
  • Treasury management: Ensure all banking and cash operations are within the company's policies. Also, ensure the company maintains adequate funds to meet its financial obligations as and when they fall due through effective cash-flow management.
  • Exchange risk management: In liaison with banks adopt an optimal hedging strategy against exchange risk exposure.
  • Credit risk management: Closely monitor and supervise credit control operations by ensuring that customers trade within their credit terms and adopt strategies to mitigate credit exposure.
  • Insurance: Ensure all company assets are adequately insured against all potential risks and perils.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • University degree in a relevant field.
  • Professional accounting qualification (CPA-K/ ACCA).
  • Familiarity with FMCG organisation financial and operating policies.
  • Proven ability to interact with other senior local & corporate/ regional management.           
  • Good communication and leadership skills.
  • Experience in working in an ERP/ Oracle environment. 

Experience

  • Minimum ten (10) years’ experience in Accounting or Finance, five (5) of which should be in a tax and treasury or similar role.

Key Performance Indicators

  • Timely monthly and quarterly corporate and statutory reports.
  • Filing annual tax return with KRA on i-tax by 30 June, every year.
  • Filing annual self-assessment tax returns.
  • Effective and cost-efficient handling of tax audits and assessments.
  • Effective management of treasury operations in line with the company policy.
  • Ensure compliance with all the relevant legal and tax.
  • Accurate and up-to-date financial records on tax and treasury.
  • Effective management of customer accounts to ensure they trade within their credit terms and limits to mitigate credit risk.
  • Ensure all company assets are adequately always insured.
