The Role
- St Andrew's Prep School is seeking to appoint a Deputy Head Academic (DHA) who will provide strategic direction and leadership of the academic provision in the Prep School.
- Reporting to the Head, the DHA is responsible for the successful organisation, administration and development of the academic life of the Prep School and will collaborate closely with the Deputy Head Academic of the Senior School. He/she will also liaise with the Director of Admissions & Marketing in relation to student admissions and progression.
- The role has a significant strategic element to it and the appointee will be expected to play a leading part in shaping the future of the School's academic provision as we strive to provide a world-class education. - This is a wide-ranging and complex role requiring a clear understanding of academic provision, management systems and leadership, ideally in a Prep School setting, within a Christian context.
- The DHA will most likely be someone who has experience at Senior Management level in the independent sector who is seeking a fresh challenge. Alternatively, the role might suit an exceptional individual with experience gained as a Head of Department and who has an instinctive feel for School Leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- The Deputy Head (Academic) will promote the Christian ethos of the School;
- She/he will hold principal responsibility for all aspects of the School's academic life;
- Facilitating the ensured academic success of Prep School pupils on transition to Senior School as well as the integration of the academic vision between both the Preparatory and the Senior School is an important element of the role.
- Reporting to the Head and as a member of the Prep School Leadership Team, the Deputy Head Academic will be responsible for the academic leadership and management of the Prep School.
- This is a high profile and demanding position, and the successful applicant will be a key figure in shaping the vision and direction of the Prep School. It is suited to a high calibre professional who combines exceptional leadership skills with significant and relevant experience.
- In return, we will offer the successful applicant an exciting and dynamic working environment, personal mentoring and leadership development, happy and enthusiastic pupils who enjoy learning, suitable accommodation onsite, and a strong sense of community.
- It is essential that the appointee is a committed Christian who supports the School's Christian character and ethos.
The School
- The School is situated on a beautiful 450-acre site on the western slopes of the Rift Valley some 200 km NW of Nairobi. All members of staff are housed on the campus in School accommodation and enjoy significant domestic help. Near the Equator and at 2600m, the climate is temperate. It is malaria free.
- Co-Curricular provision both within the Prep School and as a Whole School is strong. At present, the Prep School enjoys an excellent reputation in Kenya and in particular on the IAPS circuit, for its co-curricular contributions. Over the past few years, the Prep School has been National Champions in Athletics, Hockey, Football, Netball, Rugby and Rugby 7's.
- We are also hosts of the IAPS Orchestra Weekend, the major musical event of the School's calendar, and have a superb standing in the choral realm.
