1) Entry-level does not mean 3-5 years of experience!
2) It's not criminal to have a job-gap. What really matters is NOT the amount of "experience" a candidate has in years of employment.
There is actually such a thing as bad experience, from continuously doing things incorrect due to a lazy workplace culture.
The only thing that matters is a candidate's skills, talents and which results they can bring at their job.
3) Give people a fair chance to prove they can provide results, just like someone took a chance on you once.
And no that doesn't mean to ask candidates to do 1-3 unpaid assignments from home during the interview process. It means actually hiring people whom you've seen are kind and eager to learn!
