ZESCO United and Red Arrows made winning starts to the MTN Super League season on Saturday, while there was also a first point for promoted Trident and Mutondo Stars.
ZESCO defeated NAPSA Stars 1-0 away from home as DR Congo star Moise Lola Kanda scored the only goal of the game at the end of the first half.
It is a good start for a team who have reset their ambitions on the Super League title after finishing 10 points behind champions Power Dynamos last season.
Edwards Mwenya was the scorer for Red Arrows as they won 1-0 away from home at Nkana FC. The 2021/22 champions also made a positive start to their campaign.
Green Eagles were held to a goalless draw at home by promoted Mutondo Stars, a fine result for the visitors, while Trident and Kansanshi Dynamos ended 1-1.
There was also one game on Friday as Nkwazi edged promoted Konkola Blades 1-0 thanks to a goal from Steven Mutama.
There are also two games on Sunday as Forest Rangers welcome Kabwe Warriors and Mufulira Wanderers, back in the big league after a season in the second-tier, will host Green Buffaloes.
Champions Dynamos are not playing on the opening weekend as they are in CAF Champions League action.
