Nairobi County has called on Kenyans to collect 292 unclaimed bodies from City morgues.
In a public notice, County Secretary Jairus Musumba said the bodies are in three key hospitals managed by the city.
"The following 28 bodies are lying at the Mama Lucy hospital funeral home, 50 at the Mbagathi hospital funeral home and 214 at the City Mortuary from the date of admission awaiting collection.
"Pursuant to Public Health Act Cap 242 [Subsidiary; PUBLIC HEALTH (PUBLIC MORTUARIES) RULES, 1991][2]. Interested members of the public are asked to identify and collect the below-named bodies within 7 days failure to which the Nairobi City Council will seek authority for disposal," the notice reads.
This comes barely two weeks after the Kenyatta National Hospital also announced that it would dispose of unclaimed bodies from its morgue within seven days.
The challenge of unclaimed bodies continues to hit city mortuaries.
A good number of the bodies remain unidentified.
In September last year, City hall announced the disposal of at least 236 unclaimed bodies from its morgues.
