Detectives from the Homicide department of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations have begun probing the mysterious death of Geoffrey Mwathi, a 23-year-old interior designer, who died at the residential apartment of Kikuyu entertainer Lawrence Njuguna alias DJ Fatxo.
This comes after Interior CS Professor Kithure Kindiki instructed the DCI to probe the case and get to the bottom of the matter following claims of collusion that threatened to jeopardise investigations.
The DCI takes over the investigations from Kasarani police station 16 days after the incident.
Moments after the Interior CS Kindiki instructed DCI boss Mohamed Amin to conduct intensive investigations into the mysterious death of Geoffrey Mwathi, homicide and forensic detectives from the DCI visited the scene at Roysambu area of Kasarani to begin ‘fresh’ investigations.
The detectives' first assignment was to reconstruct a scene at the 12-storey building residential apartment where the 23-year-old fell on the 22nd of last month.
Geoffrey Mwathi fell from a house on the 10th floor, rented by popular Kikuyu entertainer Lawrence Njuguna alias DJ Fatxo.
It is not clear yet where exactly the late Mwathi fell from, with CCTV cameras only capturing him landing on the ground floor from the singer's house.
Detectives on Friday were trying to establish whether Mwathi actually fell from the window or he fell from the rooftop as it looks impossible for someone to fit into the window frame.
Jeff had been in DJ Faxto's house after spending the night partying with the popular Mugithi singer alongside his cousin and driver.
Reports indicate that jeff had met the singer hours earlier for an interior design job and that he had been promised a down payment to begin work that same morning.
The business meeting had wrapped up, it is recorded that jeff joined DJ Fatxo for drinks and merry-making before ending up at Redwood Apartments some minutes past 3am on the 22nd.
After scene reconstruction, detectives will begin questioning persons of interest as they try unravel the puzzle surrounding the mysterious death of the 23-year-old
