Volvo promises software improvements for buggy EX90 SUV after months of customer frustration with glitches and system failures. The company is doubling down on its flagship EV, pledging fixes that enhance safety, improve charging, and restore confidence in the three-row electric SUV.
The EX90 was meant to represent Volvo’s bold step into a fully electrified future. Instead, early owners reported frequent issues—from blank infotainment screens to faulty climate controls and even driver-assist malfunctions. The much-hyped lidar sensors also failed to deliver as expected, leaving many drivers questioning the SUV’s readiness.
To address these problems, Volvo promises software improvements for buggy EX90 SUV models through major upgrades. The SUV will now feature a next-generation computer powered by Nvidia’s Drive AGX Orin system-on-a-chip. This hardware will support better collision avoidance, smarter driver assistance, and more reliable safety features.
The EX90 will also move to an 800-volt charging architecture, reducing charging times and making long-distance travel more practical. These updates are not just performance tweaks—they’re central to Volvo’s strategy of proving the EX90 can deliver the premium EV experience buyers expect.
Volvo is leaning heavily on safety to win back trust. A standout addition is Emergency Stop Assist, a system designed to bring the car to a controlled stop if the driver becomes unresponsive. The automaker says this could be life-saving in medical emergencies where a driver can’t take control.
Beyond that, new software updates will refine existing driver-support systems, making them less prone to errors and more adaptive to real-world driving conditions.
Alongside these upgrades, Volvo is investing in its Charleston, South Carolina plant, aiming to boost US production by 50% over the next five years. This signals confidence in the EX90 despite its rocky debut.
By promising meaningful updates, Volvo hopes the EX90 will finally live up to its role as the automaker’s flagship electric SUV.
