The two sides lock horns in a repeat of the 2021 final where Vihiga beat CBE in the final in Nairobi and the Ethiopian champions will be seeking revenge when they play in Kampala.
Vihiga finished second in their group after losing their last match 1-0 to Tanzania’s JKT, while CBE topped their group with a 100 percent record after winning all their games.
Vihiga have played a match less than their Ethiopian opponents as they were in a four-team group, giving them some extra days for rest and recovery.
Speaking to Capital Sport, Okere said he is hopeful the few extra days will be an advantage for his team.
“The week was important for us for rest and recovery because we also had some few knocks. At the same time, it helped us watch the other teams more keenly and without pressure. It has given us a bit more insight and a clear picture of the opponents,” said the coach.
Looking towards the game, Okere says he expects a tough duel and knows it will take a lot of hard work to beat the Ethiopian side, anchored by star player Loza Abera.
“It is a great feeling for us to be in the semis. Tactically CBE is a very good team and they have experienced players. But we have prepared well for them. We have watched them play and know what to expect form them. It will be an interesting game. This will be a thriller and we expect a really interesting game,” said the tactician.
The Kenyan champions will miss the services of defender Phoebe Aketch who is suspended for the duel after receiving a red card in the defeat to JKT.
Okere says they picked good lessons from the defeat to JKT and will be a better side, though he concedes it will not be an easy ride to the title.
“This year the tournament has really been tough. The teams have really worked hard to improve and there are no pushovers. The gap is reducing,” noted Okere.
Vihiga are seeking to qualify for the Champions League for the second time, having progressed to the inaugural edition in Egypt. The team says it will give everything to try and qualify.
“We will throw everything on the field to try and get this ticket. It will be tough, but we will fight as a team,” added the coach.
