Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKF-PL) side Vihiga Bullets continue to plead for funding to facilitate the daily running of the club.
Their dire financial situation has already forced them to hand a walkover and left them languishing at the bottom of the league standings.
The cub’s interim head coach Milton Kidiga says the team is still struggling and called on well-wishers to come to its aid.
Vihiga is solely funded by the club patron, the former Vihiga County Governor Moses Akaranga.
“The status of the team is that it’s currently on its death bed because our sponsor and patron, Akaranga is out of office and he used to spend his personal money and it’s now difficult for him to assist,” Kidiga said.
Kidiga applauded Makadara Member of Parliament George Aladwa who has often stepped up to help the team but added there was need for long term partnerships.
“We need sponsorships which I believe will help in the long run because then you can be sure you are set for the next six months or one year.”
The tactician was full of praise for his players for sticking together despite the biting financial challenges they are facing.
“They used to have morale because they had hopes but the more we continue to play the more they start to lose hope. They go home without anything and I’m not even sure they eat anything. It makes our job as the technical bench so difficult.”
Akaranga said he was worried that their current situation means they are unable to hold on to their best players if other clubs come calling, leaving the vulnerable in the coming transfer window.
“I know we have so many teams which will come knocking at our doorsteps and take our players and I won’t refuse because it will be for their own benefit. They will be growing professionally and we can only try to get other local players to fill in the gaps.
“If we have any sponsors who want to come on board to help the team, kindly come. As at now we have on-going negotiations with potential sponsors which I can’t reveal for now.” Akaranga stated.
Vihiga Bullets sit at the bottom of the league standings with just four points from 14 matches.
