Uruguay coach Marcelo Bielsa left veteran strikers Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani out of his squad on Monday for their upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifying matches.
The two-time world champions host Chile in their opening Conmebol qualifier on Friday before taking on Ecuador in Quito four days later.
Suarez is Uruguay's all-time record scorer with 68 goals, 10 more than Cavani who sits second on the list.
They both played at the 2010, 2014, 2018 and 2022 World Cups.
Suarez has scored 15 goals for Brazilian side Gremio this year, while Cavani has netted once in his first five appearances for Boca Juniors since joining the Argentinians from Valencia.
