University of Eldoret ‘Pippers’ will be fighting for their first win of the season when they tour the capital for four Kenya Handball Federation league matches this weekend.
The campus lads had a disastrous trip to Nairobi last weekend, losing all their four matches at Nyayo Stadium.
However, captain Derrick Cheson said they learnt their lessons and will use them to redeem themselves this weekend.
“Being our first league appearance the season, we were not adequately prepared,” Chesoni noted. “We lost our day one matches mainly due to fatigue.”
“With thorough correction of the mistakes we made then, we should be able to get some points in our weekend fixtures,” he added.
The trip to Nairobi will see Pippers battle Daystar University and Spartan on Saturday before encountering Technical University of Kenya and unbeaten leaders Ulinzi a day later.
“Ulinzi might have a hard time securing the goal difference they expect from us. It won’t be business as usual. We believe in ourselves,” said Cheson.
He observed that travelling overnight and playing matches come daybreak contributed to their dismal showing in the opening weekend.
“We are back to the drawing board. To strategise and work on our physical fitness which was also a factor in the team’s four losses,” he said.
They lost 36-26 to Buccaneers, 30-28 to Rangers, 37-26 to Trans Nzoia and 27-25 to Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (Jkuat).
The skipper expects their top marksmen, Nehemiah Kiplagat and Kevin Rotich, to show the way.
12 matches, eight for men and four for women, are scheduled for this weekend.
