Police in Busia County are currently holding two women reportedly found in possession of four packets of heroin whose street value is estimated to be worth Ksh.10 million.
The suspects, Mumbi Mwaura, 50, and 30-year-old Sharon Kweyu were arrested on Thursday night at the Busia One Stop Border Post as they attempted to smuggle the controlled substance into Kenya from Uganda.
Confirming the incident, Acting Busia County Commissioner Kipchumba Rutto said border police detained the suspects after a digital scan revealed that they had concealed the contraband inside their luggage.
They were also found in possession of a weighing scale.
The duo are being held at the Busia Police Station pending arraignment as forensic experts analyse samples of the recovered contraband.
