Two Championship clubs have 'held discussions' over signing Mason Greenwood from Manchester United, according to a report.
Greenwood will leave United via mutual consent after the club concluded its internal investigation into the 21-year-old's behaviour. The investigation began in February.
That was after charges of attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour and assault occasioning bodily harm were discontinued by the CPS, due to a combination of the withdrawal of key witnesses and new material that came to light meaning there was 'no longer a realistic prospect of conviction'.
Greenwood was first arrested in January 2022 on suspicion of rape and assault, and was subsequently suspended by United.
He is under contract at the club until 2025.Since the announcement of United's decision, several clubs have been linked with a potential move for the forward.
According to talkSPORT, Serie A club Roma are one of the clubs that 'would consider' signing Greenwood, while he has been previously linked to a potential move to the Turkish Super Lig.
Now, a new report has claimed that two English clubs have registered interest.According to the Daily Mail, a move to another club in England is 'unlikely' for the forward - but there has reportedly been brief interest. It is claimed that at least two Championship clubs 'held preliminary discussions' about signing Greenwood, but decided not to pursue their interest any further. It is unclear whether any move discussed would have been a transfer or loan.
The report alleges that Greenwood is thought to prefer a move that would see him stay in England.
Meanwhile, The Sun claim that clubs from the Saudi Pro League are interested in signing the 21-year-old.
One of those clubs is said to be Al Ettifaq, who are managed by Steven Gerrard. It is said they are considering whether to offer Greenwood a contract worth £10 million per year to join them.
While they are negotiating the player's exit, United have confirmed that Greenwood will not train at Carrington with the first team squad.
