Elly Barno, John Lejirma and Amos Odongo have taken joint-lead at the third edition of Nandi Shield Open, the Kenya Amateur Golf Championships (KAGC) meeting at the par 72 Nandi Bears Golf Club.
The trio fired level par 72 to enjoy the lead on Friday evening ahead of the second and penultimate round on Saturday morning with the final round set for Sunday at the same venue.
Home player Barno said he wants to maintain the momentum and win the tournament on Sunday.
“I want to maintain that top position in the second round as I want to record my maiden victory in the series at home,” said Barno.
“I had bad scores in the first nine when I scored six over but came back in the second nine to deliver well. If I can improve on it, then I will have less resistance on the course."
He had pars at hole 1, 3, 5, 8 and nine, dropping a shot in 2, 4, 6 and 7 but his second nine was fruitful, sinking birdies at the 10th, 12th, 13th, 15th and 16th with pars in 11th and 18th with a bogey in 17th for a total of -4 in the second nineNandi Bears player Elly Barno (R) with Golf Park's Josephat Rono after completing 18 hole round one of Nandi Shield Open on Friday evening at the Par 72 Nandi Bears golf club
