Cape Town City coach Eric Tinkler reckons Kaizer Chiefs have improved from when they last met them in the MTN8 in mid-August but still feels his side can come away with points from Tuesday’s DStv Premiership clash at Soccer City.
City lost in stoppage time at the end of the game at the Athlone Stadium when newly signed Edson Castillo scored for a 2-1 away triumph but that has only served to fuel up Tinkler and his squad for this week’s meeting.
“If we go back to that, I don't think we deserved to lose,” said the City coach as he looked ahead to the game, “I think we created the better chances in the 90 minutes.
“We had the majority of the possession, we had the majority of the box entries, the majority of final third entries. Teams that play against us on the counter attack tend to hurt us, you know, but I think we have got better in that area.”
But he warned that Chiefs, who their last game against Sekhukhune United, had improved under new coach Molefi Ntseki.
” I think Chiefs are slightly different now from when we played them in the beginning of the season. I think they’ve got a lot more structure, a lot more organisation.
“Defensively, I think they still have frailties that we obviously need to explore. But I think going forward, they're very organised and a threatening team, so defensively we're going to have to be sound against them.
“But offensively we need to play our brand of football and they've struggled against us in the past because of how we play in the formation and the system we use, so we got to try and use that to our benefit,” Tinkler added.
